Photos of hospital architecture in Europe
One day, I discovered an old book on historic hospital architecture in Europe at Emmaüs. Its pages were filled with photographs of stone architecture, which inspired me to cut and reassemble them into collages reminiscent of natural stone forms. For me, the process of making these works resonates strongly with my earlier video installations. In those projects, I collected images and materials, cut, distorted, layered, and reassembled them to create new forms—an approach that mirrors the logic of photocollage.

Perhaps because I studied architecture in Korea, I see architecture as a human creation that embodies reason and logic. By fragmenting and reconfiguring these buildings back into a form of their origin—stone, a part of nature—I attempt to shift from pure rationality toward sensation and perception, in pursuit of an art closer to nature. At the same time, these works represent my attempt to reconcile my past and present interests: architecture, art, and nature.
