This painting is inspired by a piece called "Ophelia" by John Everett Millais. I had the opportunity to see this painting in person. I stood in front of it for a long time and imagined myself in Ophelia's shoes. More specifically, I wondered what my reaction would be if, like her, my lover accidentally killed my father and I was about to commit suicide in the water, what would I do at the moment of death? Or what would I miss the most?
As I was searching for an answer, I focused on Ophelia's hand. I identified with her, imagining the sensations felt through her hands. I would have tried to feel the texture of my fingers, the water slipping through my skin, the cold temperature of the water, and the warmth of the sunlight touching my hands.
